IMO Legal Committee Session 103 was
held in London on 8-10 June 2016
During 8 - 10 June 2016, the Session 103 of the Legal Committee of International Maritime Organization was held at its Headquarter in London, UK. The topics on the agenda include (1) Facilitation of the entry into force and harmonized interpretation of the 2010 HNS Protocol, (2) Provision of financial security in case of abandonment of seafarers, and shipowners' responsibilities in respect of contractual claims for personal injury to, or death of seafarers, in light of the progress of amendments to the ILO Maritime Labour Convention 2006, (3) Fair treatment of seafarers in the event of a maritime accident; (4) Piracy, (5) Technical cooperation activities related to maritime legislation, and so on and so forth.
Item 11 on the Agenda is the work programme, under which a joint proposal was made by China, Korea and the CMI to add a new output to develop a new instrument on foreign judicial sales of ships and their recognition. After debate during the session, the proposal was not accepted.
The partner of this firm, Dr. Henry Hai Li as a representative of the CMI attended the meeting, and with other CMI representatives made a lunch break presentation on the issues in relation to the draft convention on international recognition of judicial sales of ships proposed by the CMI to the delegates attending the Session 103 of the IMO Legal Committee.
